I was at a garage sale the other Day where I picked up a computer tower and this Compac Server.. and yes I practically STOLE them for $2 ..I told them that is even out of my pay range as I get all my item free from computer shops too recycle.. I bought them and too my surprise when I opened up the Server, there were 4 intel PENTIUM PRO's on two sepperate boards, along with these 12 memory sticks and 7 other slots contact boards this yielded 63 grams of trimmed material.. The pentium Pro's add into my stockpile for now.. Here is a picture of the removed parts also there are 4 hard-drives w/ 11 platters each.. nice find I think...Compac ProLiant 5000.jpg[attachment=0]Compac

Hi all, I have a question about the RED capicitors on the cpu boards they are the ones on the inside of the CPU landings as well as around the boards.. I know that the monoliths ( the little tan ones marked with a " C " on circuit boards ) contain palladium if I remember correctly.. My question is has anybody tested this RED type for PM values ? Thank You all Mark.

Mark,

It all depends on the capacitor make and model. The only true way to know is to process small samples and keep good records.

I don't recall seeing any RED ones, only tan and brown... do you have a photo?

Steve

Hi Steve, Thanks for the hyperspeed response !! at the top of this post I placed a photo of the parts, if you need a close up I will cut a close up out for you... I hope this will let you see them better,, Mark

Those appear to be monolithic capacitors. As I mentioned, testing will tell the story.

I would be willing to bet that the capacitors do contain PM's as the cpu is of the right age.

Those capacitors may be red due to a coating of some sort, it may be a way to indicate a higher tolerance component.

Thanks steve...I will test a couple of them, I broke one of them and the red is just a color coating, the under side of them is a charcoal color.. Mark
