how do you figure ppm to oz per ton of material ? I understand grams and oz but seeing a report done in ppm is new to me.

Ppm is parts per millions, for example 100ppm Au meaning there are 100 grams gold per million grams of materials you assay. Or basically means how much per metric ton of material.

100ppm Au means 100g per ton.

Technically spoken, it means just that, parts pr million.
And that could also mean everything from grains, stones or pounds, since it is unitless.
Not that I think grains, stones, pounds or others are ever used ;-)
One has to go back to what units are used initially I guess

Just my two cents.

PPM units are generally only used in a metric sense. A number of 1 ppm gold means that you have 1 gram of gold per ton of ore.

If you want to convert to the US system of ounces per ton then you have to divide the ppm number by 31.1, this is the number of grams in a US troy ounce.

Most countries, US excepted, work solely in ppm with the gold price in $ per gram.

The ounces per ton system is basically a legacy hangover from the last century but is hard to dislodge when it has been in place for hundreds of years.
