Hi!
I tried to create Aqua Regia by mixing 10ml Nitric Acid to 40ml HCL which will be used as a gold testing solution for 18k up scrap jewellery.
The problem I encountered is that the solution I made was weaker than the Nitric Acid testing solution alone. The mixture I made did not attack the drawn line on the touchstone at all. While nitric on the other hand still did its job.
I think the problem is that with the concentration of the acids that I used.
Is there a way to determine the concentration of the acid that I have?
Is the 3:1 ratio for HCL to HNO3 refers to 100% purity?
Or do I have to heat the acid that I made?
Thank you in advance.
