Folks,

Well, this is my first topic into the forums. I am really excited about learning a new hobby :D I wanted to add my two cents (after I strip it, course lol) and wondered if anyone has tried Government Liquidation for scrap. I have access to federal auctions with the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service. They have expanded their operation to some of the public by using Government Liquidation. Interesting website and possible opportunities. The bids on lots usually start at $150, however, the quantity in the lot is amazing!

While I am sure it would depend on what part of the country you are in, where I am DRMO stuff generally sells at or above retail.

I check on Government Liquidation periodically since I'm near Columbus, OH and there are always items of interest to bid on close to home. So far I haven't managed to come up with a bargain. The information they provide makes it easy to do due diligence but also levels the playing field and most items go at or above the scrap value.

I'm sure that, at some point, something will "slip through the cracks" and I'll find a bargain but I'd rather get my source material for free.

Yeah, I have been following many of the Government Liquidation bids. I am near three locations, so pickup would be easy. Right now, watching 454lbs of bare copper going for $150. What I figure I could do is save a few spools and sell the rest to a scrap dealer. I also plan to meet with the Directorate of Information Management and inquire about their scrap at my installation. Never hurts to ask.
