I'm sorry about my bat english, i'll hope is will do.

Now reading for some day's, it's dazzeling to my. So much knowledge here.

I will introduce my self. Goldsmith for 28 years. Gemmoligist. And always curieus about how thing work.

Do to time and several experiments earlier i have got several precius metals dissolved in liquids.

For exampel about 2 pounds of fine silver in an cianidic solution about 4 gallon. Witch was an then used silverpalting bath.
My question is how can I make the cianidic solution harmless en get the silver nitrate to metallic silver.

And do to some expermental things I have an portion of purpelische debrie of gold containing liquid, partionally cianidic to some degree.
I tryed to use stainless anodes and kathodes to get the metal out of it. Some appering fine silver workt fine. But a lot dropt out from the kathode en becam a metallic debry on top op the purpelisch stuff.

I haven'd the faintest idere whatt I am doeing, Dazzelt all the way.

Million questions en much more andsors here....

Yours Ruud

So bable fish doesn't translate well? I thought it might help.

Anyway there are some here familiar with the ways of cyanide however that's not me. The members that are familiar with the use of cyanide are reluctant to advise folks who don't respect the dangers involved. Basically those that fail to follow the exact instructions required to do the job safely.

It translate's well butt dutch has an strange constuction off making sence.
It translate's the words good butt makes a mess off the combinations words. :p
We call this grammatikaal, do'nt know the englisch word for itt.

Anyway I have about 6 liters of silver containing liquid, containing about 1 kilo Potassium cianide and deu to the rules here is it not possible to get rid of it. Off course I can just pull it down the drain, butt That is not my way off working. I do'nt care about the silver butt hate to expose the enviroment to this.
The silver is just for funn :p .

You can find some information by using the advanced search function for "cyanide".

Keep in mind reading all these posts will not make you an expert. Please be very careful one wrong step with cyanide can end your career.

Don't let your last post be your last post.

As an galvanic specialist I work about 20 years with cianide's. I'm very carefull with it. Specially when the kids are around, got 6 off them 8) 7 monds till 19 years.

Till recently it was easy to remove the metal contents ( usually gold bath) en bring the liquid to the chemikal wasted stuff center.
Butt they dont take cianides anymore. only if it is below 5 grams a liter. Sorry about 12 grams a gallon.
Still good for most the goldbath but not for silverbath.

Yours Ruud

I go search for "cianides"

Thanks

lapidee,

I think you could reduce the cyanide content to below 5 g/l simply by electrolyzing it. Just use a couple of fair-sized steel plates as the anode and cathode and apply about 6 volts across them. Stir occasionally. After a few days, the cyanide should be quite low. Here's some info recently posted.

I would be interested in how the waste center determines the cyanide concentration.

Thanks I'll try that.

In fact they dont test the stuff at the moment I deliver itt. I have to Id offcourse and when it isn'd allrigt ik have to pay an lot off money.
It is not the only thing I have standing here. Ready to deliver to them. 150 liters of old gold bath, 20 liters of old Rhodium bath etc etc.

Butt the silverbath is the most dangerous so I want to get rid of it as soon as possible.

Just add my 2 cents about cyanides. Remedy is sodium thiosulphate. I would turn silver cyanide into silver thiosulphate/thiocyanate mix by simple addition of sodium thiosulphate. Then oxidize it with bleach, which also would precipitate silver chloride/silver sulphate mix. And then process it via oxide/karo syrup route. I wonder if silver hypochlorite would also form.

Unfortunately, I can inform you that lapidee (Ruud Stratmann) is not longer with us.

He was shot dead by two robbers in his own jewelry store on April 25, 2012.
