Thanks for this wonderful resource and education on this forum.

Is it economical for home-refiners to use either electrolysis vs cementing copper out of nitric acid solution, to recover the copper from scrap?

(And then this copper to be sent to a refiner or refined at home).

Because copper bullion is quite expensive in my area.
(Over $100 for 2pounds or 1kg about).

If it's worthwhile, which would be the better method to use, electrolysis or cementing copper out of nitric acid?

At face value, electrolysis appears safer, but what about economy?

What do you advise thanks.

It is less hassle to cement it on Iron, but it will not be very clean.
I think you can push the Copper out by an electrolytic reaction regenerating the Nitric at the same time.
Not sure how pure it will be though.
If you want it pure, an electrolytic cell is the way, but then you need a Copper bar and some Copper salts for the electrolyte.
Usually it is done with Copper Sulfate.

Yes that's a good point.
If cementing it out of nitric solution, what other impurities will be present and how to remove.
Depends on the starting material.

Leaning towards electrolytic cell for this and other reasons...
