Does anyone have any experience with the precious metal content of an electron microscope (transmission type) Phillips brand I believe. Also, what hazardous materials may be involved? I assume there are at least some radioactive metal concerns.

Nothing radioactive. Ought not to be that much precious metals in it, perhaps the boards are slathered with it but I'd have no idea.

The real prize for those systems are the evaporators and sputtering systems--usually they have gold, silver, and palladium targets and foil.

Thanks Lou, I had an opportunity to consider purchasing one at scrap value, but couldn't look it over very well - they weigh a ton and the timeline was short. I'm better educated now.
