My name is Tom, I live in NW Iowa (hence the name TomIowa). About me>

I have for as long as I can remember (which isnt long sometimes) been interested in coins, gold and silver.

I was even in a club in 1965 when I was 11 years old and the 12 of us found an actual buried treasure with the newest coin being a 1937 penny. There were gold, silver, and copper coins, also a lot of paper money such as gold and silver certificates, and very old "horse blanket" bills which are much larger than our paper money today. It was an internationally reported find.

Then when I was 16 and on a family vacation in the Black Hills, I was introduced to gold panning. Hooked bad ever since in precious metals, and anything to do with mining. Have even taken 2 of my kids to Montana and found over 300 sapphires on a mountain side. Only about 30 are of gem quality, but it was just adding more fuel to the fire for me.

Have owned metal detectors for over the last 30 years of my life and have found several nice things with them,,,but sadly no gold.

Have dabbled before in scrapping, and had been given over 300 computers by a local college when they discarded them and bought new laptops for their students.

I actually scrapped out about 100 of them for the steel back then, but wasnt aware of the other hidden values in them. I got tired of it, and gave the other 200 away,,,,,,,,,,now kicking myself in the backside as hard as I can for what I unknowingly gave away.

I did keep most of the cpu's and had pulled a number of pins that I thought looked like gold,,,,and now know they are plated. It is time for me to take the next steps and learn how to process them further for the gold.

I am also going to seriously get back into scrapping and want to learn about the other metals as well. like the silver and copper.

I am hoping to learn from all of you, and want to express my appreciation in advance for your help and advice. I am going to start by reading the forum threads and as I gain knowledge and experience hope to eventually be able to contribute a little something now and then. In the mean time I will continue scrapping the steel and aluminums I get, and hoard the copper, silver and gold I get until I know how to process them.

Thank you all again:

Tom
