Hello to all. I recently acquired several hundred pounds of x-ray film while cleaning out a storage container, and called several recycling centers and was shocked on how much they were willing to pay sight unseen for the materials. I began to investigate the process of extracting silver from these films and my searching led me to this forum. Can I please be directed to the safe and correct procedure to extract the silver from the films myself.

Film scrap is one of those things that has almost definite values so it's easy to price. Processing is not as easy as it sounds. It requires equipment and knowledge and money and your several hundred pounds is way too small an amount to set up for properly. It's basically a high-volume low-profit item. I would just sell it.

Here's some real numbers for you to look at. When selling it, expect to get about half.
