On a whimi stopped at a yard sale/ open house to look for things I probably didn't need. I then came across this little gem. It's not a gem of course but a sterling silver platter. I've given up on finding things like this. The thrift stores near me all check their stuff before setting it on its shelves. So I picked it up and went straight to the backside. To check for symbols. And found "Towle sterling" and the numbers "48382" still not thinking it's pure I googled it and found it for sale at around 170$. Now that's silver prices. 😁171 grams of sterling for a small fortune of 50 cents. Winning! Tell me what y'all think.

If undamaged, keep or sell. If damaged beyond a few minor scratches, refine or toss in the scrap silver bin.

Finds are still out there. In a world where disposable is becoming more important than enduring quality, they are harder to find.

I think I'm going to go ahead and refine it. I've got a Lil more silver that'll go with it. Plus I just love to refine silver. I think it's one of the funnest of all these procedures.

Good find, they are still out there I got 31 ounces of sterling for 3.38 a few months ago.

My best find was at a flea market, 7.8 grams of 14K necklaces for $5. I even ask about them and the guy replied “yea but they are bent beyond fixing and no one wants them”.

I once bought relay array from old telephone centrals in scrapyard for 15 or 20 euros, I do not remember precisely. There were more than 100 relays, every one with approx 0,5g of contacts - AgPd30 alloy.
That was a nice payday :D :D even get those 20 euros back on copper and iron from them :D :D
