I found a spot near an old gold mine where the area is just littered with this stuff. I was hoping you guys could let me know if it's worth going back and get more to sell. There are all different types of minerals and rocks. Stuff I've never seen before and would love and education offered on the ore and others. I've crush some of the quartz and there is definitely gold there but, it's such small specks. Any advice if there's actually value and I do feel like panning the creek bed there you would definitely come up with some nuggets. I haven't made it all the way back to the mine yet I had my daughters with me and we got there kinda late. Here are some photos any help with identifying these would be most appreciated.

Could run up to $150.00 per sample, for an ICP (40 element ) analysis. If you would like to only send the most promising, hook up with a geologist to make some recommendations for you. If you don't own the mine, I wouldn't spend anything on it, as the costs will add up quickly. No one any where can tell you what you have, from a picture. Fire assays run around $50.00, + shipping and prep charges. When in doubt, google an assayer near you, and call them.

Where is manyland?

Hello and good afternoon

For my appreciation
pictures number 13,27,47
look interesting

i din’t check the rest of the pictures

send it to a lab
or crush some of then and panned
look if the concentrate have any value metal

You should send it for a fire assay for Au and Ag.

For screening, try Princeton Testing Laboratories PTL.
So, what I found was .4ozs ag per ton and .29 ozs per ton au. There are tons of outcrops that have popped out everywhere and I've taken a sledgehammer to a couple and found lots of gold quartz. There is no way I'm going to process this on my own nor am I going to ship tons of quartz off anywhere. Is there anyway to profit from my findings? I also found some type of fossil and I'm not sure what it is but, it definitely seems prehistoric. Any suggestions?

Very nice find. I live in Maryland, near Great Falls, & I was planning to visit the old mine to check the rubble. I'm happy & encouraged by your exploration. Some success has been had panning the cracks around the waters.
Perhaps we'll meet up one day while hunting rock. Good Luck..

You need to learn to follow the quartz veins, especially those with bulky 'massive' forms of pyrite. The more crystalline the pyrite, the less likely it has much gold, as clean crystals exclude other materials from their structure. The black-colored metallic crystals are interesting. Not sure what they are. Definitely some type of metal ore, but unlikely a PM, and they'd probably be worth much more to mineral collectors, as that's a pretty impressive specimen.

Most of those rocks I see are just gneiss and schist, and I can even see the common type in that portion of MD, studded with tiny garnets. No gold there.

Once you mine the quartz veins, pay attention to the walls where the quartz interfaces with the bedrock. That region is often where the most gold is concentrated. Look up some mining videos on Youtube from Mount Baker Mining. Jason is very good at showing how these minerals appear, and what clues to look for. There are also detailed vids on processing ore. If you're getting roughly 0.3 oz/ton gold, that's a pretty good ore. About 10g/ton. Definitely commercial-grade. If you can concentrate only the richest parts of the vein, you could even boost it quite a bit higher. No need to process the worthless rock around the vein!

There's a ton to explore!! I've only touch the surface of the area and haven't even made it up to the mine yet. This is all stuff found either in the creek bed leading upto the mine or from an outcrop that's just barely popping its head out. Im not sure if they are all connected or if they popup randomly. Im still studying up and i havent looked into it yet. I do know they seem very spread out. As far as the matalic looking minerals, those actually came from my father-in-law and are unidentified. Here are a few photos of what the outcrops look like and some better gold in quartz I've found. I do have several of the pieces that have the pieces of garnet but, they are so small. I'm thinking these black areas are silver?

Yes, that sounds like an adventure. I've read that Great Falls is the spot to do some panning. I'm sure the creek bed where I'm finding all this stuff has definitely got some nuggets but, I haven't had a chance yet. How far down should I have to dig?

The way nuggets travel down a waterway is by rolling and sliding along the bedrock when a monster 100 year flood gets everything moving. When they slip into a crevice in the bedrock there is small chance flowing water will ever move it again. It's just waiting for you.

I worked a river in Ecuador many years back using a suction dredge and some places we had to remove, with the dredge, 6 feet of overburden to get down to the cracks in the bedrock. Very few gold nuggets ended up in the riffles of the dredge from pumping away the overburden but the cracks were holding!

Would you happen to have any visuals of how you set things up. Also, here are some gold in quartz samples I found the other day and wondered do they have any value? I also have this other mineral or something that I'm finding mixed with the quartz some is black and some is green. I know some of the material is mica but, this seems different than the mica.

Would you happen to have any visuals of how you set things up.
Many years ago, my partner and I built a 4" suction dredge. Sadly, he passed away a few years back. We designed and built it based on information from Keene Engineering. This was before the internet had really developed, so it was all based on a brochure we got from them. Today, you can visit their site and see a lot more pictures than we had available.

I still have everything stored away if anyone is interested.
