I have a custom milled graphite mold and seen something about borax sticking to graphite is it ok to flux my silver with borax before pouring into my mold or will my bar stick in it causing me to have to break it?

Generally speaking I don't use any flux when melting pure metal, other than a that used to season a melting dish. If I am melting something dirty or cleaning a dish and I have a large amount of flux I will pour that into an old graphite mold an have never had a problem with it sticking.

Will using borax give my bar a more smooth finish. I'm trying to obtain the cleanest bar as possible

Use as little Borax as possible.

Borax and carbon molds don't like one another much.

Borax and proper graphite crucibles have the same lack of affinity
