Hello everyone,

New to this group. Not at all chemistry background, however, I've been following a a lot of videos (SREETIPS mostly) and doing a little bit of my own research everyday and have been handling these dangerous goods for the past year. Was successfully able to refine a 0.1 gram of gold (lost the other due to my lack of knowledge) from AMD processors with a chinese manufactured chemical, would be sure to help any of you with the entire process from A to Z. Although it was tough to understand the thing, I did my own reasearch and went through with it. So I believe if such a thing that did not have any clear understanding of how it is to be used and I was able to get the job done, other chemicals should not be much of an hassle too although research and safety first.

Much here to discuss with y'all about the constraints that I may face and I believe that this community will always be here to help me out with that.

Cheers to all :)

Hi Welcome to us.

Most of these wonder chemicals whether Chinese or other, are just a mix of common chemicals sold at a much higher price.
That goes especially for the "Green" chemicals for ores, which most of the time is some kind of Cyanide derivative.
So it is especially important to ID the composition of these so you treat them correctly.

When this is said here are some work for you:

1. Read C.M. Hokes book on refining jewelers scrap, it gives an easy introduction to the most important chemistry regarding refining.
It is free here on the forum: Screen Readable Copy of Hoke's Book
2. Then read the safety section of the forum: Safety
3. And then read about "Dealing with waste" in the forum: Dealing with Waste

Suggested reading: The Library

Hello Sir,

How are you?

I do have C.M.Hoke's PDF book, I'm confused and surprised how there isn't a mention of the neutralization process of the HCL/peroxide solution. In fact she hasn't mentioned Hydrogen peroxide at all, is there some other name for the chemical too? And how do I really neutralize it before draining it down?

Secondly, about the chinese chemical, true it is a cyanide derivative. But that is all I do know about it. It was a tough ride because the seller really wouldn't give me much detail of the compounds involved and led me to a much slower process throughout. So I really had to figure the major chunks on my own to precipitate using the first time ever zinc. LOL

Anyhow would love to learn more about it from seniors like yourselves :)

I've said it before, if the manufacturer does not provide all the info to safely and effectively apply their product, Do not buy it! They only want to fool you and take your money. Ask for a MSDS. Expect to not get it. No honorable intentions whatsoever, just a need to sell stuff without any real customer service. Read:scam.

Yeah well, I learnt it the hard way. I noticed it very late that the guy was helping half heartedly.

No she do not mention Hydrogen Peroxide as I remember, nor do she mention the cupric chloride etch aka AP.
And Sulfamic acid to destroy the extra Nitric/NOx.
These are techniques that was not known in her time. The book was probably written before 1940 some time.
To “destroy/decompose” the Hydrogen Peroxide or even bleach just have a prolonged simmer as temperature decompose them.
Please do not use the term neutralize for these techniques
since in chemistry that means to bring something to a pH of 7.

Another thing, we NEVER drain anything before we treat it properly for waste disposal.
Have you read the thread regarding waste disposal?

A pH of 7 means alkalinity that means its safer to drain it down with less or no availability of metal/acidity in solution.

Well yes unfortunately, the services aren't present in my country. I have no other way than draining it down. I know it sucks but it is what it is. Even if i do keep a stock pot, to cement any metals onto a copper bar, I'll still eventually have to reduce the concentration of the solution and drain it out only.
