Just wanted to say thanks for letting me join your group, I appreciate it. I am just starting out as less then a beginner, I am 53 years old and my name is Bill. I came across some videos on YouTube one day by a man who goes by the name " Sreetips" and I was instantly hooked...lol. I mean compared to all of the members here I am just attempting to do this as an interesting and fun adventure to try out in my extremely boring and uneventful life now a day's...lol....not really funny though...lol.....Anyway, I have more to add to this but it's getting late and I will continue the rest as soon as I can...Thanks again for the hospitality....Bill

Welcome Bill! It’s a fun hobby. A dangerous one, but a fun one. Sreetips also got me interested and then YouTube found lots of scrapping vids for me. This hobby is dangerous and costly if you want to go all the way with recovery/refining. As a backyard newbie, the hobby has to be the reward. I’ve broken even on recovery/refining, but it took a while. Read up on lots of this forum and realize sreetips has years of vids as he learned along the way. I really like his stuff.

Welcome Bill

If you are looking to you tube videos for your refining education then you are likely a visual learner. Be careful about what you believe that is on you tube. Sreetips makes excellent videos and he is a respected member here. Many others who post on you tube are not. Ever notice that every piece of Sreetips equipment has his name prominently displayed? That is likely so people don’t steal clips of his videos and post as their own. If you see a video on the internet about refining please feel free to come here and reference the video and ask for opinions. Like I said, some you tube videos are good and others are click bait and can get you hurt. Learn to tell the difference.

Hey Bill welcome. I am quite new at this hobby and will con concur on what haas been added above. Sreetips got me hooked and I really enjoyed his latest with the RAM fingers since e waste is my preferred type of refining I enjoy. Also read CM Hoke. Its detailed reading and for sure it’s tough reading, at least for me, but it is a fountain of knowledge. Stay safe

Hi, Thank you to all the people who has taken the time out to write me a little something and give me some guidance to start off with .... I appreciate it.... I will try to address all of you on this one reply because if I did it individually I would be here for hours because whenever I write something I tend to try and explain myself or shall I say, I try to explain what I'm thinking in my mind and trying to get out in great detail in order for whomever it may be that I'm talking to to try my best to understand exactly what Im trying to say as it is going through my mind....if that made any sense...lol.....Anyway, please excuse and bad spelling or punctuating that I may make because I will be trying to write all that I have to say as quickly as possible or else I will be here all day....and besides that I hate using this text messaging system on my phone because my fingers are way to big for these little buttons...lol.....Yes it is a fun hobby, I can't even tell you how much time I keep playing around with this batch of mixed fingers that I have been soaking in Vinegar and sea salt and peroxide for almost a month now and the gold plating is being quite stubborn on falling off...lol... but like I said, I'm not doing it In a serious way yet because like what was mentioned to me from AndrewSuperD ...it is a Costly endeavor if one decides to go all in like Mr Sreetips has done....I would like to but the problem is after my supply that I have is gone then what to do or where to go to get more at a reasonable rate so I can at least try to make a little profit from it to keep my fun hobby going on.....so to speak. But anyway, And yes It can be dangerous and that's why I have to use Vinegar and Salt and Peroxide to make it work instead of the Big boy chemicals because thenI would have to try and build a fuem hood and then one thing leads to another and another and before you know it you are spending thousands of dollars...lol.... But like I said, I would like to do that but all I have is 10 ponds of mixed fingers to play with and once their gone I have no more to refine....I mean sure I will have a bunch of cool equipment but nothing to put in it...lol......And yes I look at you tube videos because it's always nice to visually learn then to have to read...lol....but I enjoy and method of learning just as long as it's interesting to me....and to 4metals , I know what you mean when you said not to believe everything you watch over at you tube... they have some crazy methods and very unsafe ways that they go about things....but Sreetips reminds me of myself because I am a perfectionist and from what I can see so is Sreetips....he don't stop until he gets the results that he wants, I seen him on many occasions when he keeps on refining a batch over and over again or keeps on adding Nitric acid over and over again....to me he looks like he us way overdoing it but what do I know compared to him...lol.....He has to be getting g sponsored for the chemicals that he is using because he goes through them like water just in one batch of refining something. If that was true then he would be losing way more then he would be making because the price of all the Hydrochloric acid and Sulfuric acid and Nitric acid would be outrageous.....and It's funny that you mentioned that about him putting his name on Everything that he uses on camera.....my first impression was .....Darn, this guy must really love his own name...lol.... but that makes sense what you said about why he probably pits his name on everything....And thank you so much for offering the help if I see a video or anything that I may have questions about, I greatly appreciate the offer...so thank you....And to Popplaysgold, I was considering buying that book from CM Hoke but it's quite expensive and I didn't want to buy it if it was just filled with technical science terms only...like the whole book was filled with things that I wouldn't understand how it was being said..so to speak.....I mean if I knew that at least a good portion of the book was written in basic English them I would buy it but I have no idea what's inside...but either way I'm quite tempted and I'm sure sooner or later I will give in and wind up getting abused like always...lol. So in conclusion I have more to say but I don't want to bore everyone to death over here, so thanks everyone for all your hospitality and help...I appreciate it all.....and If I left anyone out or not addressed some things I apologize for that...I'm sure that I will catch up as soon as I can ...lol....Bye for now, Bill

Just a quick bit of advice. Considering a good number of members read posts on smartphones, writing in a way that is easier to read is helpful. When you factor in the fact that a lot of our members do not share English as their first language, it becomes even more important when trying to comprehend what you are saying or asking.

So..... paragraphs! Breaking up long paragraphs into smaller "digestible" thoughts is helpful if you intend to have your post read to the end. New thought, new paragraph, with a blank line separating them. Just as I spaced this paragraph from the one above.

Try it, it really helps!

So despite your lack of paragraphs, and it's pouring outside so I can't go outside anyway, I slogged through your post.

Close to the bottom, where most would have given up by now, you said;
I was considering buying that book from CM Hoke but it's quite expensive and I didn't want to buy it if it was just filled with technical science terms only...like the whole book was filled with things that I wouldn't understand how it was being said..so to speak..
I realized that if your post was easier to read someone would have noticed this by now and told you it is available here on the forum both as a screen viewable copy or as a printable PDF. And it's free! (thank you Frugalrefiner for that Herculean effort) If you search for Hoke's book on the search function or click on Frugalrefiners signature line you will find it.

Remember easily readable gets responses.

Hoke's book is not overly full of scientific terms. It does do a very good job of explaining the technical terminology in layman's terms where the average person can understand it.

What it does not do is explain electronic scrap processing. That is not a worry as so much had been posted on this forum it is hard to find something electronic that someone here has not already processed.

Just so you won't have to try to find my signature line.
