My name is Matthew I am absolutely new to the world of e scrap... I have been scraping metals for years doing haul away for local companies. Recently I hauled away 50 older dell computers and a bunch of old dial up modem PCI cards. After scratching my head as to what I should do with them other then just dumping them at the scrap yard for $200 instant gratification, I stumbled on to your forum... And all I can say is WOW! Thank you all for having such a wonderful place for accumulated knowledge!

I do have 2 quick questions...
1. My first batch of processed finger were packed way to tight in way to small of a container and my AP solution is way way dark with black sentiment on the bottom is that gold and can I recover it?

2. I have a mix of 50 processors ranging from Pentium 2-4 with a couple xeon and 1 or 2 older Intel's are they worth messing with?

Thanks,
Matthew Watson

Welcome to the forum Matt,

Your AP solution is likely saturated with copper, you can test this with a few drops of water. If you see a white 'cloud' where the water is added to the AP, then it's saturated. Saturated solutions can form several precipitates, including any gold that may have been dissolved in the early stage of the process. The only way to know for sure what's in the black residue is to collect it and perform some tests to see what it is.

For the processors, I would suggest you try to get your hands on some ceramic cpus for your first go around. Pentium 4's are of little value compared to earlier ceramic cpus. The finger boards from the slotted cpus can be removed and processed in your rejuvenated AP from the batch discussed above. The cards from the slotted cpus contain some gold, silver, and palladium inside the various parts on them, but processing these items is more involved and requires more work and knowledge to recover than simply running fingers in AP. If you jump in and run the P4's now, you will likely be posting a question like 'where did my gold go' as you will be expecting to see the gold, but in reality it will be such a small amount that you will likely not be able to see it with the naked eye even if you do everything right.

My name is Steve and i am new to the world of scrap gold, I have friend who is a member and has been doing this for the last 10 years, I have accumulated very little knowledge about this process just some of the basics and dangers.
My friend is going to show me things but as when learning anything the golden rule is to do your homework, I give this advice about the subjects I am experienced in, always willing to help others and here to lean.
My friend has told me about the golden rules for this forum, homework by reading up and telling no secretes to any none members, I am a member of a diagnostic and programming forum and have similar rules so I will respect this forums rules to the letter, Steve 8)

Welcome to the forum.

I don't know who your friend is, but I have never read anything about a golden rule here about not telling secrets to non-members.

Secrets are not secrets if they are told and known:lol:

Here on the forum you will learn of secrets kept from the common man throughout history, that is one great thing about the forum information of recovery and refining and these precious metals are no longer being held as secrets, the common man who wishes to work to learn about this science and valuable knowledge can.

We share information not secrets.
We take the mystery and voodoo science out of the alchemy of gold and precious metal, and share the true science and art.
Welcome to the forum.
We will enjoy watching you have fun learning this skill.
