Hi,
My name is Ryan. Ive been into e-scraping for several years but have just started researching about PM recovery. When I think back to all the stuff tossed into the scrap bucket I cringe.
I work in the semi-conductor industry and have been in it for 10 years. As much as I hate to see the CPU's I built get destroyed, I am glad to see them not end up in the land fill. (can you figure out who I work for now) I have worked with many different hazerdous chemicals over those years. Most of the time it was just some nasty solvents but a while back I got trasnfered to an area that used HF (hydroflouric) and Nitric acid. Now I mostly use 30% peroxide.
Now Im back in school working on a second BS degree. This time im going for an engineering degree from ASU. Between full time work, school, wife and 2 kids, I dont have a lot of time to devote to recycling. So all I really do right now is tear stuff apart, seperate and wait until I have enough to make a run to the scrap yard. The circuit boards are scavanged for gold and all gold bearing material is removed and seperated according to type. Fingers in one box, pins in another, RCA jacks in another, etc etc. I havnt tried to retreive gold yet as I dont have enough material and I dont have enough time to read Hoke's book. Funny how physics 2 seems to take up all my spare reading time. I have just found out that we have been throwing away silver scrap in my work area for the last 5 years.
Well Nice to meet you all and look forward to reading and learning from you.
