Hello everyone,
I just found this forum today after trying to look into recovering Pt from computer Hard Drives. I work in the IT field and have several hundred pounds of older scrap circuit boards. A friend of mine just last night was talking to me about how you can recover gold from RAM sticks, so we started chopping off what I have learned are called "fingers" along with the fingers from a large box of old AGP video/graphics cards. We watched a few videos on YouTube and got a general idea on how to do everything to recover the gold, so since I found this forum I have been reading nonstop.
For the past two years, every once in a while I have also messed around with trying to melt down a large number of solid silver pipe organ keyboard contacts that I have as well (with no luck due to not yet achieving a high enough temperature). The most I have gotten from that is lumpy chunks of half melted silver, but it is not something that I desperately need the money for so it has not been a high priority. Now, after realizing how much all my old PCB's could be worth, I have decided that getting back into PMs is definitely worth the effort, especially considering that I will not be in college over the summer (I am currently a student), so I will have a lot of spare time on my hands.
Mainly I'm looking to learn how to properly reclaim PMs from my huge collection of scrap. Luckily I ended up with quite a collection of unused laboratory glassware and other equipment and I have a strong foundation in both Chemistry and Physics, so I am confident that with the right instructions, I will be able to make a nice bit of cash reclaiming PMs.
I am looking forward to learning a lot on this forum!
Thanks,
-Paul
