Hello Everyone and Happy Holidays!

I am a 72 year old male living in Pearland, Texas, which is located south of Houston. I retired 6 years ago after working as a contract employee in NASA's Flight Operations Division at Ellington Field. I worked in the Life Support Department, in particular the Parachute Shop where I was an FAA Master Parachute Rigger. Later I served as a systems inspector and finished my last ten years of service as the shop crew leader.

I have been a licensed private pilot for more than 40 years and I have never lost the awe and wonder of flight and I still never pass up a chance to fly.

A local TV drive to collect unwanted computers and a few words by the news person about how some people engage in recovery of precious metals from this e-waste sparked my interest. Web searches led me to this marvelous forum.

Since joining the forum, I have read HoKe's book and most sections and post on the forum. I have read the Safety section and dealing with waste, and taken the Forums guided tour. I have been struck by the expertise of contributors like Harold_V, Lazersteve, Geo, GSP, butcher, Solar_Plasma and so many others. To all of the members I extend my thanks for sharing your experience and Wisdom!

I have learned a great deal and I have much still to learn before attempting anything including HoKe's acquaintance experiments. Later, my first recovery attempt will be on a few old cellphone boards but my ultimate focus will be primarily on unwanted or broken karat jewelry.

So to everyone, hello and I look forward to reading all your post and questions.
So long for now!

Welcome to the forum, it sounds like you know to learn to fly before getting in the cockpit and taking the plane off the runway for a joy ride, that is one of the first hurdles to try to get new members to understand, many want to fly before they learn how.

I think karat gold would be an easier material than cell phones, clean memory fingers are a great material to learn on.

Hello and welcome to the forum. As butcher said fingers are by far the best acquaintance experiment you can do. Since you have ties with Nasa I would see if you could get whatever they throw out. That would be some great material to have! Again welcome and enjoy sounds like you're on the right track

Alexie,

Welcome to the forum. Always good to have a fellow old-timer on the forum, especially one from Houston. I moved away from Houston in 2006 and I still miss it. If I remember right, wasn't it Pearland that got about 35 inches of rain in 24 hours from that hurricane in the late 1990's? People were using boats on I-10. Anyway, if you need any help, let me know.

Chris
