Hi all my names damian and over the past few months i have become vividly interested in gold scrap :)
i have been through this forum many times looking for answer and bye what i saw lazersteve got em all lol
im 26 and a real noob but not stupid, iv worked my way through (ap) process hlc and peroxide , (AR) process, iv learnt the hlc and nitric acid way but i i have seen loads of other ways down to household bleach :s iv learnt removing solders buy hlc leaching bath, iv learnt about my dropping agents (SMB) and what other materials they might drop apart from gold ie, copper sulphates and silver, iv learnt how to test my solutions for golds with stannous chloride ( NOT sodium metabisulfite thanks jim), iv learnt safety aspects, iv even learnt what different chemical processes (ap) or (ar) or both to go throught for different types of scrap whether it be fiber boards, ceramic cpus, or just gold plated pins and gold plated scrap, i have tried my hardest to research this and im ready for the plunge, as you can probably tell:)

so there it is if i make a random post that may seem silly to you theres no need to bother and hit me with "have you even searched it yet" cus as a man with his pride the LAST thing i want to do is ask anybody for anything so i will always try my hardest to find my own questions, so if i do post, the i really i need your help, and all your multi talented skills, after all thats what were all here for, thanks all

"how to test my solutions for golds with sodium metabisulfite"

Did you mean stannous chloride?
Welcome to the forum.

Jim

Great! so much for first impressions lol dont wanna be using my dropping solutions to test gold now, thanks for pointing that out, can i add i have no practical experience yet
:)
nice to meet you

Welcome to the forum Damian.
Im always pleased to see UK newbies and hope you will find this a pleasant and knowledgable place to be. The rules are few but strict, the most important is to treat others with respect whether you like a reply to a question or not, the rest I'm sure you will pick up quickly.
You have found the only resource worth a penny here so learn to use it, we have many if not all of the leading minds in refining on here and most are only too willing to help, but only if like you seem to have done, you do some research first.
One warning though, this is a huge subject and few if any know it all so you could be here for a very long time, good luck.

thank you nick, im looking forward to delving into this subject, its right up my street, science, and gold, iv learnt so much already but i guess the real learning is when i go for gold and start some practical experiments, i will respect this forum and the ppl in it like my own dont you worrie and i hope one can be some use to someone like myself oneday, cheers

welcome damian, you surely kept me on my toes for the last few days.if you think i know alot about refining, these guys will blow your mind with the knowledge contained here. download this pdf. it is C. M. Hoke's book "refining precious metal waste".even though its nearly 100 years old, the chemistry is solid and geared toward the common man.please read it and reference it often.it will answer almost any question you have.the only thing it doesnt cover is electronic scrap, although many of the processes described you will use for it anyway.
