Hi, I'm an electronics repair technician in Norfolk VA currently working in a cell phone store. I do repair work and have accumulated a lot of junk circuit boards over the years. I have a half a garage full. In the 3 short months I've worked in this cell phone store, I've accumulated around 3 lbs of gold bearing scrap, mostly cell phone main boards. The business is a new one and with any new business, you're going to get a lot of calls from people trying to reach in your pocket. We've been contacted by a few different electronics recycling companies and they all have a price for cell phone board scrap by the pound. The best price given was around $2. I figured they were on to something, did some research and found that there's certainly more value than that. One website was offering $35/lb! A lot of these phones, especially the smart phones, seem to have a large amount of gold plating for their size! I searched high and low on the web looking for an honest number on the gold yield of cell phone scrap and came across this site. I'm still wondering what the true average yield is, I can't find a straight number anywhere. If it's high enough I'd love to start recovering the gold from all this scrap I have!
This site looks great and seems to be filled with a lot of great, useful information and more importantly, great people. It is very refreshing to see people who don't mind sharing information without trying to reach into someone else's pocket. Trust me, I found a lot of people doing just that!
