I thought after lurking here for 3 years I would say hello and might as well say it Merry Christmas.

I've been interested in refining precious metals for years, and have spent the last 3 years reading and researching. I've finally moved to my new home in Essex which has space and permission from the wife to setup my own lab. I'm also planning in the new year to visit some of the smaller electronic repairers and retailers with flyers etc, to build on the stuff I already have stored.

I'm also designing a fume hood and scrubber system which i will put up later to get some advice on.

Hope you all have a fantastic Christmas :)

bavo3333,
Hello, and Merry Christmas.
Sounds like you have started off on the right foot by studying and learning what kind of waters are under the bridge before jumping in head first into a dangerous situation.
My suggestion when you do get the Lab set up is work on the getting acquainted experiments you find in Hokes book, these small experiments teach a lot, and help in understanding many of the basics needed with any material, you can further your small experiments with many other materials and reactions for better understanding of what happens and why...

Starting off with a material which is "fairly easy" without the difficulty of some of the more complicating base metals or problems encountered, will make it easier to learn on, seeing results you may not get with more complicated materials or processes... which is helpful. Materials like karat gold or memory fingers, and the processes used to recover and refine values from them...

The materials with less problems, and the processes used to recover and refine the metals from the "easier" materials can give you a better understanding, and ability to see the reactions that you may not get when you work with the more difficult materials or processes...

Study is the key to your success, keep working on the key to your treasure chest, and stay safe.

Thank you for the warm welcome. Last weekend was clearing out my new work space. Though I think i might need to clean it with a broom in one hand an a harpoon in the other. I don't mind spiders but when the size of a dinner plate I'm more tempted to burn it down and start again.

Sorry off topic. Been very busy with work so been spending only a little time getting the workshop ready and built. Whilst researching I think I've worn my printed copy of hoke's book out, and might have to use the work printers to print another copy.

Anyway will post photos as things start to take shape.
