I've been checking through this book and it contains a lot of interesting formulas
for a large variety of things; kind of like a book of recipes for craftsman.
Title: Henley's Twentieth Century Formulas, Recipes And Processes
Author: Norman W. Henley

It takes a little getting used to with the archaic names for ingredients.
I thought this one entry in particular might be interesting to some people here.

Acid-Proof Cements for Stoneware and Glass

I believe an edition of the whole book is available from archive.org and/or google books.
There are also entries on working with gold and silver
and various preparations made with them in one of the volumes.

edit: archive.org changed from .com

Very nice! Thanks for sharing! One of those books good to have if someone would be cast away on a dessert island 8)

The book was originally published in 1907. It was revised in 1927 and renamed Henley's Formulas for Home and Workshop. It's been in my library since I was a teenager, long before the internet existed. I got some of my first glimpses into working with silver and gold from that book.

It includes information about gold alloys, including blue and purple ones, plating, assaying, testing, etc. Nothing in depth. Just a few brief paragraphs on hundreds of different subjects. It's an interesting read, but I would verify any information I find in it with other sources before relying on it.
