I'm Pisca from Alabama. I have a few reasons for joining y'all.
I have considered extracting gold for a while now but it seems like it can be complicated and not yield much profit.
However, it isn't all about profits. In college, I took several chemistry courses including organic chemistry. it is fascinating to me. I would like to learn more about this process before I attempt to do it.
I also think this is something that is educational but fun that I could teach my 14yr old son about. They do not get to use or learn about some of the more dangerous things in school chemistry classes that I was able to. I feel like as a parent, it is my job to educate my son as well. He is very intelligent and plans to become an engineer. Like me, he enjoys learning new things.
As for what type of gold items I have, there is a variety. Mostly electronic boards and such but I do have some gold plated jewelry items. I'm sure some things that I'm not even aware they have gold in them. Lol. My family has lived on the land where my home is since 1923. As you can imagine, we have accumulated tons of items. There are old tvs and stereos from when my grandmother was growing up still in a storage building on the property and I have disassembled all of our old computers that we had since around 1998-present. I had originally attempted to sale the boards and memory and other items but nobody really seemed very interested in them. Rather than continue taking up space and not being useful, maybeextracting the gold will be the best option.
So thanks for letting me join y'all's forum and I look forward to any advice , knowledge, and opinions that you are willing to give.

Welcome to the forum!

You can start your education with the book in my signature line below. It was written in 1940, so it doesn't specifically deal with ewaste, but it will give you a foundation in the processes of recovery and refining. The forum will fill in the blanks as it pertains to ewaste.

The search function is your friend. I also recommend my Tips for Navigating and Posting on the Forum thread to get you on your way.

Welcome here, you are at the right place to learn.
First of all we like to use a proper language since it is an international forum and some rely on translators to understand what's going on in here.
Lingo don't translate well so we like people to drop that.

Second download and read C.M. Hokes book here on the forum.
It is an easy to understand yet comprehensive book on refining jewelry wastes.

Then study how to treat your waste.
It is all here in the library section.

Edit to add:
Dave beat me to it, and it is his links;)
