Hello everyone. I am new to scrap refining. I am interested in supplementing my retirement which will be upon me in a few years. I live in upstate New York in the Southern Tier, East of Binghamton. I am in the process of getting my teaching degree in secondary education with a specialty in mathematics. I have always loved science and am looking forward to learning from the experts.

Welcome to the group. I'm no expert in refining metals but you joined the right group to learn all you need to know. As you search this forum for the information you need, you will notice many members have links in their signatures where you can easily find the downloadable books (especially Hoke's book) that will give you the basics of refining precious metals.

The link in my own signature will give you a good start and includes links to Hoke's book and the two forum handbooks as well as how to make and use stannous chloride to test your solutions for gold.

I have also included links to some of our member's YouTube videos. YouTube and the internet in general is not always the best place to get your instructions for refining gold and other precious metals. Once you have some basic knowledge on refining, you will probably notice many websites and videos that have unsafe or sometimes just plain wrong information.

Good luck and stay safe.
