Hi everyone,

I am very pleased toi find this forum, in my quest for refining my gold scraps. I am a jeweller living in a very nice small island in the indian ocean. The only thing is that we do not have any gold recycling industries locally. I am willing to get autonomous in refining the 18kt gold I get from my customers, so I can ally it again to the right colour they want. At the moment they all have yellow alloyed gold and want white...

Please accept my appologies for my english is not my native tong, french is. Sorry the if I misspell or write improperly.

For now I'll go read the famous Hoke book !

Frederic

Hi Frederic
Welcome to the forum. Don't be too concerned that English is not your native language. You're doing well so far and there are native English speakers who do not write as well as you.

You've stumbled on probably the best place on the Internet to learn about refining precious metals. Do check The Library for a whole lot of good information.

I know of La Reunion from a friend, and on checking it out, not only do I think it's a gorgeous bit of country, but your Rue de la Montagne in Saint-Denis has to be one of the best driving roads in the world. I would love to visit. With an M5.

You're onto a good start by reading Hoke's book. There's plenty of studying ahead for you, and if you do your homework, many experts are here to help you on your way if you happen to get stuck.

Welcome to the forum Frederic and as stated before your English is very good.
The good thing in having 18k alloys and above is that they are relatively easy to refine once you know what your doing.
The bad news is that good 18k white alloys normally have palladium in the alloy and even then will require rhodium plating to get that good white colour, nickel has been used but it can and does cause allergic reactions in some people and has been banned in Europe.
If you wish to know more about alloys once you have mastered refining then pose a question and I'll be glad to help out if I can.
