Hi everybody. I was lurking for a while and decided to take the tour.

Name :Gavin
*** : M
Age : 38
Location : Houston
Profession : Electrical Properties, Oil and Gas
Hobbies : Science in general, precious metals, base metals, woodworking, rocks, DIY, E-waste, Gardening edibles (Fruits, veg, nuts, tea), ponds, biology
Interests : Same as hobbies?
How long have you been refining gold or have interest in precious metals? : Haven't refined yet, may be a long time before I acquire the raw materials, but I want to be ready when I've got them.
What are you looking for in our community? : Knowledge, a little levity, and a place I can go when you can't just look up the answer or don't want to find someone trying it for their first time on YouTube.
How did you discover our Forum? : Not sure but I believe I googled a question and the answer was here. Hooked ever since.

A little extra about me
I'm slowly putting a lab together in my garage, as my budget allows, that has to be blended with my workshop. It's not specifically for refining, it covers whatever I may want or need to do at the moment for unrelated interests, but there are many overlaps. Looking forward to dipping my toes in, I was thinking about paying nearly spot for karat jewelry to give it a try, and looking forward to getting to know some of you.

Regards,
Gavin

Welcome to the forum Gavin. You can find all the answers here, though you'll have to devote a lot of time and effort.

I would caution you about refining in your garage. The fumes from the acids we use are pervasive, and will quickly rust everything in your garage, and perhaps in your house if it's attached. You'll find that discussed often here as well. You really need an unattached, dedicated space to refine precious metals.

Dave
