Pamela Shuford..I'm curious and just want to observe for a time...then figure out how to do this while living on a sailboat...Thank you for accepting me to the group...
Welcome to us.
But if you are thinking to do this in a boat you really need to reconsider your plan.
The fumes from reclaiming and refining will destroy practically all metal in it's vicinity.
Not very ideal in a boat, besides that salts and fumes are toxic.
No problem doing mechanical sorting and depopulation style work, but for the chemical side I'd find some place onshore to house it.

Here is something to study while you are cooking up a plan.

We ask our new members to do 3 things.
1. Read C.M. Hokes book on refining jewelers scrap, it gives an easy introduction to the most important chemistry regarding refining.
It is free here on the forum: Screen Readable Copy of Hoke's Book
2. Then read the safety section of the forum: Safety
3. And then read about "Dealing with waste" in the forum: Dealing with Waste

Get a 30 gallon rubbermaid water trough to do everything in out on the open at the back of the sailboat. Get rubbermaid acid proof storage tubs to store things. Get a 25 lb bag of sodium bicarbonate and cat litter to neutralize and absorb spills.

Welcome to the forum..... I just have a few concerns about your situation.

#1 Unless you are moored in a marina, I would be concerned about the wake from passing boats/ships during reactions.

#2 How do you plan on storing/disposing of your waste solutions.

#3 Some of the fumes that are produced are heavier than air and will find the lowest point of the boat...that would be the cabin area, bilge/engine compartment. I guess that wouldn't be a problem if you keep everything closed up during the reactions.

Or maybe I'm just being a little too overly cautious...I don't know.
