Well as a few of you know, I am not really new to the forum. I carefully selected the conversations I have either been involved in or have started. First of all the recovery and refining business is really a hobby for me (Or at least I am starting out that way). Running a business in the industry takes a lot of time, knowledge, focus, energy, commitment and well of course...money and for me that is going to have to be a gradual procedure. As a hobbyist I can aquire knowledge, learning from the greats and learning from my own mistakes at the same time as not indulging myself in financial blunder. After all this is turning out to be an adventurous journey to take and I see myself quite active in the industry down the line. Think of me as a student. Yes I do understand quite a bit but not to the extent that most of the seasoned veterans on this site do so all I can do is learn.
Well how did I get started in this? Good question. My father was in the gold and silver trading industry (but kept it as a hobby) as I was growing up. I never really gave much thought to it until I got into my adulthood years. You see, I grew up an artist, even majored in Visual Communications Art at the University of Oklahoma, My art skills are still revered even to this day (Of course I get the occasional request or so). After college I ended up in the textile screenprinting industry first as a printer/operator and progressed to graphic designing. I left the industry, married my wife and began doing fiberglass (bodywork) rework on leisure boats. During those years I opened a photographer studio and shot weddings, baby, family and senior photos as well as sporting events, etc. I left the boating industry to pursue another graphic design career with a local textile printer until the business went under ( we produced many of the Hard Rock Casino apparel that you may or may not see on a somewhat average basis). During this time I continued to pursue my side work as a photographer and also re-entered ( I was involved in training a few years earlier) the world of mixed martial arts as a trainer/manager for amateur and pro fighters (which I continue to do to this day). I ended up finally exiting the photography business due to too much competition in a small area. I have now been working almost 2 years in the injection molding industry. It was about a year ago that I took my Gold and silver buying interests to the next level and ventured into PM refining and finally narrowing it down to just gold and silver recovery and refining (still open to general PMs as finances grow to and allow for). For a few years I have known that there were certain chemical process to recover and refine with but never got down to reading and studying up on it until this last year. These last couple of months is where I have actually been actively involved and trying to learn correct procedures, etc. I have guys like Nick, jimdoc, Harold, Geo, GSP, Claudie and a few other names to thank for helping me get through these learning stages to prepare for my first procedures. Even though some of us have not conversed, I have been reading those helpful posts. 8) If you ever have any questions, feel free to ask. I am listed on facebook as well so if you want to know my handle, PM me, otherwise I have come to acknowledge that this site is almost just as social as facebook in a way, maybe somewhat better (I have actually been spending less of my time logging onto facebook an d spending more of that time on here)
