Hello everyone, New here.

I have been reading this forum for the past few weeks related to extracting and collecting gold from computer components.
I am now into the stage of preparation, and was wondering if what I am doing is right.

At the moment I have a few different RAM sticks. I read in another thread that I shouldn't just put the whole thing into a solution and wait for it all to dissolve then try to cement it out, but rather isolate the parts that contain the gold. (Picture 1)
I am torn between doing 2 things:
Breaking off the edge with the connectors and using that, Not mechanically separating the plating from the board
OR
Scraping the connectors, actually separating the plating from the board.

What would be the difference between these two procedures? Is there any tin/copper/aluminum in the actual PCB itself?

I do not know what the black things are called, But would these contain any precious metals?

Furthermore, would there be any other place that gold would be hiding in/on these?

I have also taken a motherboard and stripped a lot of the capacitors and slots (PCIe & RAM) (The rest will come off soon) (Picture 2)
Would there be any gold hiding anywhere else on this board?

Ive heard that there are some platinum group metals in the capacitors, and that the pins for the PCIe and RAM slots are made of Tin, I do not know if this is true and would appreciate a correction or confirmation. (Picture 3 & 4)

TLDR; How Can I further Prep these before I put them into the Acid bath?

Welcome to us.
1. Cut off the Gold plated fingers as close as you can to the Gold and put them in a pile until you have a few 100 grams of material.
2. Remove the Chips as they hold most of the Gold inside. Save until you have a few 100 grams.
3. Not much on the Main board aside from the Chips if it is old enough. Same as other points.
4. These pins look like a waste of time.
5. These capacitors are aluminum can type no value besides minute amounts of Aluminum.

We ask our new members to do 3 things.
1. Read C.M. Hokes book on refining jewelers scrap, it gives an easy introduction to the most important chemistry regarding refining.
It is free here on the forum: https://goldrefiningforum.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=19798
2. Then read the safety section of the forum: https://goldrefiningforum.com/forums/safety.47/

Just so I've got this right.
The actual board of the RAM and Motherboard do not contain anything worth extracting, nor do the pins and caps from the MOBO.
The value is in the chips on the RAM and the fingers.
Would any of the chips on the MOBO Contain anything worth extracting? (The large green one bottom right, or the ones bottom left)
What Other PC Parts are most used for these procedures? (CPUs, Graphics Cards, Power Supply, Hard drives etc.)

Sorry for the questions. Currently reading through Hoke's book.

Search for the user Tzoax on the forum, he had a long thread about content in chips.
There may be a little on the pins but way less than you think.
Yes the board themselves contain a bit of Copper inside plus the Solder outside.
If you can sell the low/middle grad boards and buy more material.
It is good to train on though.
