I have some sterling and scrap silver to melt. I would like to find someone that will melt, refine and make bars for me.

Closest I know of is D H Fell, in Commerce, CA.

http://www.dhfco.com/

Not especially competitive, pricewise, as I recall.

This thing about "making silver bars out of my sterling"....you understand that the "transformation", no matter how you may picture it, is not one iota different than the separate operations of 1: selling your sterling silver, including paying the freight to the refiner or buyer, paying his fee, and paying for his "pot loss"......and 2: buying bars of silver with cash dollars, including paying the freight from the seller, and sales tax, if any. I know that people picture the "transformation" of sterling into .999 a certain way, but it isn't that way. Your silver is no different than any other silver, and quite frankly, you are NOT necessarily better off acquiring "private label" bars of .999 silver vs getting "better known" bars of Englehard, JM, Sunshine, NTR, Pan American, Wall Street Mint, APMEX, Amark...or whatever-stamped bars you are likely to get buying silver from a tulving or an APMEX or a CNI or a Merit Financial or whomever.

Just to update things, DHF settlement schedule was revised in 2012 and payable returns are very competitive. No hidden fees and folks are eager to help in person or over the phone. Visit the Refining page of their website @ www.dhfco.com for more info on this and all available services. Still family owned and operated, and now operating satellite assay and melt offices in San Francisco, Phoenix, as well as Los Angeles markets.
