Hello all,

I have been using this website as a resource for a bit now, mostly through Google and forum searches. I have no prior experience besides a few projects that I relied heavily on the information here. Their level of success varied but I'm not giving up. It seemed right to finally join and go beyond the simple searches to actually learn in the best way.

I'm from Northern Ohio and a history nerd with a background in archaeology, though that is no longer my career. Also love the outdoors and spend my springs mushroom hunting and my falls deer hunting.

My interest are mostly in silver and silver refining, and even as the "GoldRefiningForum" this community seems the most active in all aspects of refining.

Thanks

Welcome to us.
We are mostly into recovery and refining.
So ores and minerals are not our main focus.
We have how ever may skilled prospectors here so you will find some information about those too.

Anyway if you are to venture into refining we recommend you to study these links.

1. Read C.M. Hokes book on refining jewelers scrap, it gives an easy introduction to the most important chemistry regarding refining.
It is free here on the forum: Screen Readable Copy of Hoke's Book
2. Then read the safety section of the forum: Safety
3. And then read about "Dealing with waste" in the forum: Dealing with Waste

Suggested reading: The Library

Thank you for the prompt welcome! Recovery and refinement is exactly what I'm after so that is perfect. I live in Midwest farmland so I have never had the opportunity for much in the hobby of minerals or prospecting. What I have to play with is mainly industrial scrap.

My semi-successful attempts I mentioned involved working on scrap using nitric acid and the copper method. With a lot of reading here I was able to get it done but not always to my satisfaction.

Thank you for the additional links and the warm welcome
