Hi everyone, just wanted to introduce myself, I've been lurking for 6 months, hoping to find something to say, but really haven't found anywhere I could contribute . . .I'm basically a scrapper, haven't taken the plunge into pm . . . , I keep threatning to . . .but (failed chemistry, took calculus THREE times . . .still have no idea what that's all about, anyway)
So I'm just not wanting to feel like a peeping Tom anymore, and thought I'd say "Hey". I've done some amatuer casting related to amatuer boatbuilding, but nothing fancy . . .I"m also interested in amatuer built aircraft, but the materials are out of my price range (for now). My day job is a taxi driver, I scrap at night, basically to pay bills, but I also like it.
Thanx for all the effort and info sharing you guys have put in . . . I may not seem to use it right now, but I'm no longer leaving processors and memory in the computers I cut up. Regards, Tim :p

Aparently you have a lot more knowledge and things to say than you think.
I read between the lines
Scrapping is what a lot of us do, just a little bit different
I only started to learn in the last 2 years about this kind of pm recycling
one day your specific experience will come into the light
nice to meet you

Thanx everyone for the Welcome. Rick, roger that, but I need to warn ya, I got two speeds . . .slow and . . . "someone poke him with a stick see if he's breathin".
The airplane reminds me of some of the stories here. The prefrerred wood (in homebuilt aircraft) is old growth Sitka spruce, which runs about the same price as gold per pound (I think there's some still in the northern part of your state . . .less than a thousand I'd guess . . .HIGHLY protected). Anyway, clear fir, is a damn close second, as far as wieght and strength, which alot of exterior doors, previous to the 70s. were made of. So I pick those up, when I'm out scrappin. I'll bring home a huge 70 lb., honest 2 and one half inch thick door, thinkin I've got half the wood I need for the whole plane. (The FAA requires, there has to be at least 8 grains per inch on 2 faces of wood used in aircraft) So I start changin the angle on my table saw, and wishin I'd paid attention in geometry. I also like to garden, so boy am I lucky cause when I'm done, I got like 59 lbs of sawdust (mulch) 500 tomato stakes (alot of those are from the previously related geometry problem) and maybe 2 sticks of FAA qualified wood . . .
I kinda relate to your stories about reducing a huge bunch of electronic widgets, and gettin a like a thimbulful back. . .of MAYBE somethin you can use . . . Yeah, . . .very similar Karma . . . so, at least the part, where you suddenly realize that its alota work with little or no return . ..I think I'm OK, with that kick in the . . . knees . . .
But meanwhile, the stories are really interesting, and probably when someone points out, I'm not really helpin with the knowledge base, I'll go mix up a really nasty bunch of goop, an pour it on the first bunch of shiny widgets, I find and work up a really good fib about all the money I made . . . (probably have to learn some pmtechnobabble, but whatever keeps me in the door!)
Anyway, this does feel like a nice place, and I appreciate everyones' s Welcome!!!
