Howdy Folks, I am still a newbie at prospecting, but I spent many years as a goldsmith, making and repairing fine jewelry, and casting, in several jewelry shops in Eugene, Oregon. I really appreciate groups like this that share knowledge and I am open to questions related to goldsmithing, cheers

Welcome to us.

We do not focus so much on that sector, but we have a jeweler or two onboard.
Nice to have another with us.

Our focus is mainly reclaiming and refining the Gold.
The challenge most of us meet is to get a steady stream of material to refine.
You should probably have less challenges in that respect than most of us.

If you plan to get into refining we urge you to study beforehand as it easier to avoid mistakes than fixing them.

If you feel a need for more input in the jewelry sector, Orchid may be a forum of interest.

I have a link package for you if you are interested:

1. Read C.M. Hokes book on refining jewelers scrap, it gives an easy introduction to the most important chemistry regarding refining.
It is free here on the forum: https://goldrefiningforum.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=19798
2. Then read the safety section of the forum: https://goldrefiningforum.com/forums/safety.47/
3. And then read about "Dealing with waste" in the forum: https://goldrefiningforum.com/threads/dealing-with-waste.10539/

Thanks! I have downloaded the Hokes book, and am aware of the need for extreme caution and for knowing what I am doing before doing any refining at home. You are right about having enough material to process is the main need for us. I don't do much with jewelry these days but am able to find at least small amounts of gold so far in our local rivers when I put in the work:)
