Hi everyone,

After stumbling onto a few videos on youtube, I found this site. I've been trying to find a new hobby for a while and this looks like a fun/frustrating way to spend the time.

I have found the links to Hoke's book and the two forum handbooks so I have a bit of reading to do. I do have a question for you all though. Other than a chemistry class in high school, way too many years ago, I have very little base knowledge in this area. Is there anything you all would recommend I read before I start venturing into refining?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.
Read Hoke several times until what she teaches makes sense, it was written in the 1930s so e scrap isn’t covered but the chemistry covered is much the same as we use.
Learn about the reactions and any dangers involved and also how to make your waste safe, read on here and post questions if there is something you do not understand, the proviso been we need you to do the heavy lifting you need to read and research and find some answers yourself.
Ignore most of the videos on YouTube as many but not all are rubbish, there are several members who do post decent videos.

No problem we try to help.
Please remember that virtually all processes and reactions pose serious health problems if not done correctly and with full understanding of the risks hence the advice to read and educate yourself, the last thing anyone wants on the forum is you or anyone else hurting themselves or worse, and yes it has happened
