Hey all, great site!! Lots of great info and from the looks of it great people too. I am very new to gold refining.....very very new... I have been interested in starting this for about a year now and have been stockpiling up what i have access to, basically gold from electronics. From what i gather i need to learn three processes of removal. 1-AP method for gold fingers and gold attached to boards, 2-removal of gold from metal pins and other metal objects, and 3-removal of gold from CPU chips and other gold bearing chips. I have just started reading on the AP method and hope to try it out soon. Got everything i need today at the hardware store. i want to make some vids of the process as well. Hope to learn more and ask questions!!!
THanks :D

Oh My God......soooo much info..... brain cramping...... its times like this that i remember that I was a C student at best in high school and college chem classes. Speaking of classes, I am way out classed here. I am starting this as a hobby. From what I am reading the easiest method I can see to start with is the A/P method for gold fingers. Does this sound like a good place to start from the pros here? I get all of my scrap free so i have only the overhead of the chemicals and muriatic acid and peroxide are not expensive. I can not wait to get started!!!

Wait to get started and do your studying and reading first.
Take the guided tour to start and pay particular attention to the safety section. Read at least twice and more until it sinks in C.M.Hoke and study in detail all processes you intend to try, use the search function top right of your screen to search for further information and in depths replies to all the questions your going to have.
This is a huge subject and most of us learn something everyday or week.. Welcome to the forum!

Don't feel bad. Alot of us are outclassed, but you gotta start somewhere. Yes, AP would be an excellent place to start. Just check this url. It says alot. Like Nick says, be ready BEFORE you start.

Wow, I think an important thing to mention is that at least where i am there are hardly any stores that carry muriatic acid in the 31.45% solution. They are all carrying the "safer" version that is much more dilute. Or magic Acid, not sure if that will even work....Good note to make sure new people read the consentration % on the bottle before buying it..
