Cupelling are done in special cupels, not in dishes.I did a smelt. Retrieved the lead button. then cupeling with a torch and this is what I got. A gold glazed broken cup with a lead bead left
I have a proposition for you, or for somebody that is trusted. My house has been built on an ancient riverbed that happens to be filled with a lot of gold, silver copper, possibly platinum I would like to send somebody who’s experience in refining a bag of already powdered ore. Yours to keep and maybe after that, we can talk more. You see on the kind of person that believes there is enough abundance for everyone to go around. I’m not a greedy person. I would like to learn much more about refining, but with my ADHA brain, I need step-by-step instructions, or scoping with somebody or hiring somebody to just do it. I don’t know as much as I would love to learn I do have a five year old and I don’t really wanna have those chemicals around my house. Anyway, let me know if you’re interested or if you know anybody who would be interested in that.If you need a few cupels feel free to PM and I will send you some for free.
A few observations if you don't mind:
1) button looks too shiny to be lead, I suspect silver. Lead tends towards dull gray when torched and leaves red/yellow compounds condensed around the top of edge of the dish, of course the flux could be protecting the top of lead from oxidation and leaving it shiny.
2) respirators are meant for rescue and/or escape operations, not full time use. Think of them as get in and get out devices to be employed during an emergency. Even the highest rated filters (eg military and nato certified) are only good for an hour or less exposure time depending on toxicity levels and the environmental conditions.
3) Consider setting up a fume control system for melting and refining operations. Keep your respirator close by if SHTF.
Welcome to the forum!

This leaves some questions: Is the riverbed your property? Do you have the miners- or prospectors rights?I have a proposition for you, or for somebody that is trusted. Thank Lexifer
Of course payment for assay and in no way was I trying to offend. I guess I was trying to offer more than people usually give out. I’m not always great with words. Yes of course I have prospecting rights. I’m not a thief. And I’m starting to feel like maybe this space isn’t for me. I’m 41 and smart! Just want to be respected like anyone else. Thanks anyways. This leaves some questions: Is the riverbed your property? Do you have the miners- or prospectors rights?
This is not really 'ore', but natures panning concentrates called alluvial deposits, which can be high or low in different spots.
Assaying these deposits can be misleading. You need to run a couple of yards of pay to know, and that it's is still a game of luck to some point.
An assay is only telling what is possibly there, not how much. It depends on the way you took a sample. So what do you want to achieve with having it refined or tested?
The "Your's to keep" 'offer' is actually US law, as I understood from Lou, and you still need to pay for an assay. So your 'offer' is interpreted by some members as offensive.
Martijn.
I resemble that remark! Not everybody is smart, some think they are, some truly are.
Not me. I mostly ask stupid questions
