How long have you been refining gold? : Just researching it now
What are you looking for in our community? : Information and guidance so I don't do something foolish
How did you discovered our Forum? : Searching the internet (Google)

Hello all. My Name is Josh. I am the President of a HVAC demolition company in the San Diego area. Well, demo contractor is our operating title, but truth be told most of our business is scrap. I came to this company about a year ago and after a short time realized that there was a lot of money literally being thrown away. I won't bore you with the particulars but I have instituted an e-waste recycling program and have generated a stead flow of e-waste. Always the entrepreneur, I have begun refining what we do and how we handle the materials we receive. I always knew there was PM's used in electronics but never investigated reclaiming and refining it. After spending all week at the ISRI convention and touring local e-waste recyclers in my area, the potential in my e-waste finally hit me. That is where this forum and my membership comes in. After 2 days of reading various info around the web (and being smart enough to know that most of it was either plain crud, or crud laced with someones agenda) I stumbled upon you fine folks. Not being new to forums I quickly realized I had found the info source I needed. You know it when you see it. There could be 100 forums related to a topic, but only one REALLY has the people with the knowledge.
Anyhow, I am mired in reading a searching....and loving every minute of it. Thank you all for so openly sharing your knowledge. I will do my best to find my own answers and post my results for all.

Oh, and I have included a picture of a very small sampling of what we are collecting.

Josh

How many of them are you looking for?

Welcome to the forum Josh,if you dont find the answers to your questions on here they probably havent worked one out. The members are probably the best informed and educated group of precious metal recyclers any where and help and advice is freely given in almost all cases.Check out the sources of metals section it might point out some things you never thought of and keep saving until you feel ready to test the refining side, some of the e scrap you collect will not be worth your effort to refine and can be sold to specialist refiners, theres advice on how to sample to ensure fair payment on here to. The information on here is truly staggering and we have some real experts in all areas as your going to find, have fun and read the safety section and download C.M.Hoke its the beginners bible,it doesnt cover e scrap, written in 1940, but gives a good over view of most refining processes.

I made a key fob with an aluminum plate glued in between two 486 CPU:s... of course with all the sharp pins outwards!
The first key to our server room at work disappeared but after I made that one on the key ring no one put it in their pocket by mistake.

Welcome to the forum, Josh. You will like it here.
