I am still collecting scrap to process but as others, am reading posts galore to expand knowledge. I am probably going to start with a Sulphuric cell when I feel ready and have enough stock to try to work with. However, I have read mention probably a hundred times of the "sulphuric cell setup" yet I cannot find it.

I have been reading various related posts hoping someone would have posted a link to answer someone's question, or in hopes of stumbling across it. I find reference to the cathode should be higher (or lower) than the anode and such which leads me to believe that there is one post somewhere that says "This is how to set it up"

anyone?
I tried to search but you get about 2000+ hits with any combination of "sulphuric" and "cell" and "stripping".....

This page is lacking some details but there are a number of good links in the reference section.

This is where I started along with another member.

Along the way we both learned a lot and had several questions answered that might help. I will admit that I had been through some serious research before attempting this. I enjoyed the back and forth input with bmgold and the help offered from the other member's. Maybe it will help you some as well.

Hahaha. Ok I never thought of sulfur vs sulphur. Canadian vs American......
Thanks guys for the input, duh lazersteves, of course. I will also hit the other suggestions. It just seemed like someone had a "master design" that others were referring to so I was trying to find that ..

That is a really nice cell, Kurt, but it might be a bit much for an entry level cell.

My first test was made of an evaporating dish (a low beaker), a piece of lead from an old lead shielded cable and stainless tweezers, this allowed me to run pieces by hand to get a feel for the deplating cell. I used it for running large pins, connector shells and gold plated objects like coffee spoons and cheap clocks.

It took me less than a half hour to put together the cell with stuff I had laying around and I used it until water absorption from the air diluted the acid and the tweezers became two cm shorter in a short while. At least now I recognize the signs of diluted acid.

The cable were connected to the lead by just folding it around the cable and crimp it with some pliers. The tweezers were connected by just wrapping the cable around the end a few times.

I ran 2 kg of scrap through it until I had to stop because of the excess water.

So somewhere between my minimalist cell and Kurts deluxe cell could be a good place to start.

The best thing I can tell you is always use a deep vessel and keep the contacts high up from the sludge.
Contact with the sludge will cause it short.
