Hey Community, I’m Blinker. I’m an electrician and general contractor. I started on this pursuit to turn the dust of the earth I grew up poor on into gold about two years ago after seeing a silica mine so beautiful I had to know more about it. I had heard rumors of gold mines and even abandoned bunkers hidden in the sides of hills. I thought they were old wise tails told by people on meth to be honest. But the stories are very real. My research has took me adventures Indiana Jones would be jealous of. The buried valleys and canyons of the crystalline mountains. I’ve seen entire hills made of solid crystal a hundred foot tall. while researching mines in my area in general I learned the property I own is in the center of an old forgotten gold mine. I found a quartz diorite vein in my yard and I want to extract the minerals from it. That’s why I’m here. I know very little and need all the help I can get. Thank you ahead of time for your patience. It’s a lot of info to take on in a short time. Old records list the host rock as quartz diorite and quartz veins containing about an Oz per ton of gold and some silver. Not all free mill. Very rich sulfides as well.

Welcome to the forum.
Southern California you say, be careful with that 'dust of the earth', it can contain asbestos and more nasty stuff. Don't breathe the dust.

if I understand correctly, you are going for hard rock mining. To get you started and keep you from chasing traces of precious metals, read this thread:
This is a reality check, but not to discourage you.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it!

So, you think your rocks are valuable? READ THIS BEFORE YOU POST ABOUT ORE!

Have fun and stay safe!

Martijn.

Maybe also research when and why they were closed; men getting called out to war, or not economically minable (at that time), or to much hazardous substances that people gave up mining after health problems? it can help you decide to go ahead or stop.
