Part way through a decent day's refining.

Multiple processes on the go at the same time. Flasks clearly labelled with various refines at different stages. So at the hotplate I have a fresh solution of AR full of ceramic processors that need another few cl of Nitric adding. Next to this beaker is another is somewhere close to a T Oz of powder fresh from decanting out of a dropped solution, warming through in a weak HCl solution prior to cleaning.

I'm all prepped up and ready to top the Nitric up in the AR and the missus starts "discussing" the colour for the walls in one of the bedrooms. The colour discussion doesn't go swimmingly well and I get a tad annoyed with where it's going and the next thing that happens (and you can see this one coming I bet) is that I add the Nitric to the dropped powder in HCl......

/me headdesk.

Sounds like you are re-refining whether you wanted to or not. Hopefully the container was big enough to prevent a boil over, although, using a weak HCL may have limited it? For what it is worth, I am not a big fan of painting.

What color did Y'all decide on for the bedroom?

The color of concentrated AuCl

Anyway - I don't feel so dumb now - I did that once only it was silver - I was making some electrolyte for the silver cell & at the same time vacuum filtering some silver cement - poured nitric in on top of the silver cement instead of water - the instant brown Nox was followed by a whole lot of words I can't post on the forum

triple hooray on sulfamic :p

Haha yes I cheated somewhat. I waited unti lthe reaction had nearly died down and popped some into the beaker which killed it to a tint bubbling. The gold powder did the rest- I felt like I was using Harold's trick for denoxing. 8) 8)

That's experience when in a bad situation you don't panic and do stupid things but just turn around , fix the problem and you're back on track!

Great save! 8)
