Hi folks,

I see that more modern cellphones aren't really worth the effort. But then I was thinking, that at yard sales I quite often see those huge old car phones, that were $2K pieces of kit when new, was wondering if anyone had been inside one of those and found much.

Also been wondering about the really old CD-Rs and re-writables that used to be around, back when they were near $5 a piece and had a gold look to them, was that actual gold film on them or not? Thinking that sometimes you'll come across a box of old backups.

Also seem to remember that motorola stuff always looked very golden, 68020s 68030s, telecoms chips, 2-4-8k RAM ceramic chips with gold plated lids and pins. Pre 90 stuff mostly I guess. I'm figuring that any motorola equipment dated ~92 or earlier is worth a good look. Also thinking that manufacturers known to use a lot of moto parts would be good to look for, like old HP apollo workstations.

Thinking I've seen a lot of gold on old "card frame" type computer boards of the 70s and 80s, that were part of mainframes or control systems, sometimes get boxes of those turn up at hamfests and such. Think I've seen them packed with GP relays before too.

anyhoo, any of that likely to be worth a second look or not?

thanks,

Flash.

I never heard about gold in cd-r but if there is any, I would be near nothing.

You should open one of those car phones to see if there is any gold. If you're lucky to find older ones, you may get gold. But I don't really know much about them, sorry.

You should try to get a «sample» of what your looking for to see if it worths it.
