Precipitating the gold from aqua regia by using almunium

I precipitated from Aqua Regia using sodium metabisulfate, but it did not succeed in precipitating. Then I used aluminum, and this was the precipitate shown in the picture. Just a small detail question: Did you use Sodium metabisulfate as you wrote, or do you actually mean Sodium metabisulfite? A fairly significant difference between those.
I have learned that it is sodium metabisulfite that we use.

A simple reply to your question is whatever metals you had in your solution was cemented out by the aluminum .
