Hello everyone.
Im another new guy who just joined the forum. About myself, I live in Omaha Nebraska with my wife and 16 month daughter. I tend to drive my wife nuts with all the different hobbies I enjoy. My priority hobby would be prospecting for gold. I have found gold in Nebraska, MN, VA,CA,SD,WY,CO, NC,SD.My best find is actually a small nugget from NEBRASKA, hard to believe, I know. I also enjoy rockhounding, I found a half carat yellow diamond at Crater of diamonds state park and some nice sapphires in Franklin NC. In Nebraskaa I find nice Lake Superior agate, fossils, Marcasite specimans and prarie agate. I also enjoy building my own prospecting equipment, I mostly build and use sluice boxes, highbankers, dredges, and classifiers.
About 4 years ago I tried doing some gold scrap hunting, but the interest faded away for awhile, Most likely because I had little info on what to do with the scrap once I found it. This site will definately help me find my way. THANK YOU!!!!

There is one thing I have noticed on this site that is a little disturbing. It seems like every other thread I read someone has to point out every little grammer or spelling mistake. I understand that when you are describing a process it should be described correctly. But that is not an excuse to be rude or belittling.

I'm the guy that points out the things you call rude or belittling.
This forum is unlike any other forum you have visited. Here, the importance of using good and proper terms can spell the difference between success and failure, even life and death. The corrections are provided as an incentive for those that are lax in their use of the English language, offering an opportunity to improve themselves. I have tried to present the corrections without being rude--and you can expect me to continue the course--for many have benefitted. If you choose to remain on the forum, my advice to you is to speak in clear and concise English, to the best of your ability, and to present yourself in a respectful manner. (No complaints from me in that regard, just a heads-up).

If you use any kind of shorthand---if you don't capitalize when required, if you fail to use punctuation---if you speak as if you are text messaging---you will likely be ignored. And, if you don't know the difference between they're--there---their----you're likely to hear from me. That's the way I am. That's the price you'll pay to gain knowledge from this forum.

And----when I screw up and use improper terms, I fully expect that you will return the favor. Do it politely and it will be appreciated.

Harold

Heartlander27 welcome to the forum.
I see Harold responded while I was writing this but I'll post it anyway..
Your point about grammar is slightly misunderstood I feel. Please remember this is an open free forum with members of all ages, many of whom don't speak English as their first language and of differing abilities in refining and chemistry.
By posting using our best grammar and spelling, very important when using chemical names, it hopefully stops incorrect or dangerous processes. We all slip up and make mistakes at times and take the corrections with good humour but our main aim on the forum is refining precious metals and not endangering ourselves, family, neighbours or the environment.
If you stay around here long enough you will find were a pretty helpful good natured bunch but the rules need to be followed..
No politics, no bad language, no personal attacks treat others as you want to be treated, no religion, take heed of comments from the moderators and have the sense to realise none of us know it all!

heartlander---

There is more to it than might appear at first glance. Apparently some people can get pretty sloppy with their grammar and such, especially with the advent of computing, and especially texting.

Recently there is one guy who I notice doesn't use periods. I was trying to read his post, and would get halfway into his next sentence before realizing that something wasn't right. First I thought it was me! His sentence structure was kind of goofy too, so that made it worse. I practically went cross-eyed trying to figure out where the first sentence ended, and the next one started! Add to that, certain chemicals that are spelled almost the same, and a few other things, and stuff can get pretty fouled up and misunderstood. It's hard to help sombody when they're not even trying to be understood.

If someone posts something like this---

i dont no nothin on refing but i wanna lern is ther any 1 hoo will hlp me wer do i strt
c u L8r
deathdoom666

Something like that would really get some hackles up.

And has!

welcome prospector
Great to hear about your gold finds. One day I would like to try it. Maybe I would like to visit a gold digging camp run by a member on this forum. And as for proper use of words; once you get familiar with the structure of this forum, getting the right information will make you money. Getting the wrong information will just make you frustrated (hopefully not dead). In my day job, I am increasingly frustrated with the use of text message lingo in a simple paragraph. Even to the point where my student asked me why he did not get a job referal from me and I had to be brutally honest and explain that using thumb text language was his downfall and shows his ignorance of english grammer.

eeTHr : Has deathdoom666 returned? Man, that guy really irks me, eh?
hehehe

Believe me I understand the importance, my day job requires me to at least have common writing skills. If I were to submit e-mails with abbreviations or constant misspelling the client would think I'm an *****. At 32 years old I must have missed the texting trend, I don't know how they type so fast on those little buttons.

Great to have you aboard heartlander27. As the others before me have said, we strive to keep the grammar on this board as proper as possible. I for one, appreciate that Harold steps in to correct improper use of grammar such as they're--there---their no matter how small the instance. If we let it slip even a little, the site would eventually become one sloppy mess and a headache to read.

Can you imagine if all of the posts read like this?

gr8 2 have u abored az the otherz b4 me have sed we strive 2 keyp the gramer on this bored az proper az posible i 4 1 apresheate that harold steps in 2 korect inproper use of gramer such az they're--there---their no mater how small the instince if we let it slip evan a litle the site wood evenchewaly bcom 1 slope mess and a hedake 2 reed.

P.S
I put this paragraph into Word and my computer almost exploded

My friend just sent me this craigslist ad (not his);
u.Hi im your Handyman if you need small jobs dun around the house im inshord and ill paint / drywall work /cleanup/clean out/repair your lowen tractor/ snowblower/ or ? my son and I do all typs of jobs / we also work with the barter sistum so give use a call with your needs and will try to help you out just call xxx xxx xxxx for more info Thank you

Now,how many of you would be calling him to work on your house?
Now how many of you would be wanting him refining your gold?

I have a very good friend that can't read or write, for the most part.
But he is a great guy, and smart in every other way. But if I had to deal with him through emails, my brain would hurt. Some posts here make my brain hurt.

jimdoc---

You post some really good stuff.

And you would be doing me a great favor, if you would put a space after your periods and commas.

Best regards 8)

I find that when I post sometimes the paragraph gets posted out of whack, with the sentences dropped to the next line mid-sentence, when I drop the space it fixes it. Then I find myself typing it that way. I will try to not do that, but does anybody know why I get that problem or how to avoid it? If you could send me a PM to avoid disrupting this post any further, that would be great.
Jim

Sorry Heartlander27, for disrupting your introduction.
Welcome to the forum.

It's all good . Actually I should apologize, after reading a few more posts and becoming more familiar with the forum I realized it's not as bad as I thought.
It got people talking though.

Harsh as I may appear, I treat these guys like my friends. I feel free to say something that is in their best interest, even if it may appear rude to the uninitiated. I think they, for the most part, understand me and my ways.

End result?

We've raised the bar, and everyone has benefitted. For example, we now have most folks not using the non word ect----having learned that it is correctly spelled etc.

Now if someone would start correcting my errors. It's hard to improve when you don't know.

Harold

edit: corrected spelling. Thanks, Nick!

<<<<very heavy sigh>>>>>>

Damn, Nick, I did, indeed! Very embarrassing. I'm not great at the keyboard, thus I generally spell check. I obviously didn't this time.

My sincere thanks for catching the error, which I will correct.

Admit it Harold.. you like to bust balls (and rightfully so a majority of the times).

... I know Harold may come off as having a tough stance on here, but he has a ton of experience, knows his stuff and cares about getting that knowledge to those of us who truly want to learn... translation.. I'm guessing he's all soft and squishy on the inside..
