Hello All,

New member to forum, long time lurker. I have followed with interest in a lot of topics about PM recovery as I am a anti-malware type of geek that ends up with a lot of discarded computers.

My question for the forum is this. Anybody out there want to take my scrap parts, recover and refine what’s in there and 50/50 split the result? I currently just save ram and processors, shred hard drives (security) and the rest is recycled at a local yard. Tired of selling to the general public, to much hassle. Not a high volume shop here, more of a hobby.

If interested let me know. I am a trusting person and it’s a hobby, so no worries about the how much weight and so forth. What I get is a by-product of what I do so any recovery is a win. Attached is a picture of today’s pile, I think I have some more stacked up somewhere that will be included.

Thanks in advance, hope I posted this in the right area!

I can see from your profile that you are in the USA but a location within the USA would be useful so that forum members can decide if it is possible to assist you

Philadelphia area, northeast suburbs.

I was willing to mail my stuff if I have a willing partner.

Thanks for the reply Martyn

Well, I gave it a shot. Looks like my idea might not fit well with anybody on this forum. Understandable.

Sad that there were no takers. I am really interested in the recovery of metals, I do a lot of copper and aluminum alloy “scrapping” as it is. With my background in computers I never looked at this end of life recovery process. Now that I have I wish I had all the machines that were just ground up 25 years ago.

I would give this a shot myself, but as a father, neighbor and concerned adult I could never have the chemicals needed here at my house. A single parent cannot control an environment that he is away from for long hours working. Locks are for adults, and I could never leave acids here without the fear that they might be compromised by a kid.

Just to verify some of my background, and remove any thought that I might have an agenda other than pursuing the recovery of metals I will add one link related to a bit of work I have done for the online community. This example only has a bit over 175,000 views, and is just one example.

This thread can be closed now if needed. Thanks, and this really is a good reading site!

Hi Harry!
To have pieces of gold or silver that was once material the would have been thrown out is a great feeling! Precious metals in electronics is very scarse and it takes a large quantity of say, memory to get enough 24k. gold to make a few ounces. It's the same with other conponents. trust me . I've done it
Can you give us an idea of the quantity you get a hold of?
Good luck and welcome to our forum!

Hello harrythook
I live between Lancaster and Reading. Nice area here. Unfortunately, my house and tiny shed don't allow for much in the way of Processing.
I might be able to work on buying your material to add to my growing collection. But processing everything into a shiny is currently out of the question. My "Honey Do" list is way to much and I don't have the room or security for anything big and fancy.

Let me know as I could come close to board sort prices.

Currently I have slowed down the pace, spending time with son (dirt bikes, surfing, ect.) Normally I process between 50 to 125 PC's a month. If I ramp up it reaches around 500 per month.

Know the area quite well. A friend/co-worker is opening an auto repair business in Lititz as I type.
I usually save the processors and ram, 2 months ago I took 300 +/- pounds of mother boards up to that place in Rockaway. Just by the bulk size of boards and peripherals its difficult to command a good price around here, and its a pain to store until you have enough quantity to justify the fuel to recycle.

So is it better just to take the nominal amount that yards pay for this stuff? It kills me to look at something and know there is gold in it, only to get scrap prices on it. I worked on a car today, took the throttle off it and as I tossed it in the scrap bin I looked at the 4 large gold plated terminals in the connector. What a waste.

Sounds like I should just stay the course, but save the small stuff till I have 100 lbs or more?

Thanks for the replys!

I would make room here to take all that you get.
I currently clean out an auction which gets me everything and anything scrap wise. So my garage is currently filled with stuff I need to get to in order to get to the good PMs.

I even got my monster-in-law interested in taking things apart. Good past time for her as she's a nut case and can't sleep.

I can definitely pay better then the scrap yards around here so yes, I'm interested in everything you can get. Except the older monitors which I could work on disposing of as well.

B.S.
