Hi,

Came across a you tube video on recovery and just had to have a go myself. I'm an accountant by trade and a few quick sums told me I'd be better off working than putting in the hours and buying the materials to get rich on this!!!. But..... I am one of those people who, when presented with a problem i.e. I've got some gold in some components and will get a great deal of satisfaction working out how to get a button..... just has to go for it. I have just gone through all my old drawers for defunct mobiles and stripped down a wrecked ps3 to get some gold plus bought 5kg of amd chips just to give it all a go.

I pretty much have a go at anything that seems difficult to a noob and try to become proficient (not expert) just to have the satisfaction of achieving something new. I hope that I can get some real satisfaction here. It is always amazing to me the depth of knowledge that people have - just wonderful to be able to dip into these things.

I've got all the raw materials and safety equipment I need except for a smock/tunic/overall - anyone have any thoughts on these?

Good to meet you all.

Russell

Hello Russell,
Welcome to the forum, my suggestion for learning here is to begin with Hoke's book, and study of the forum loaded with many documents along with great discussions.

The safety section and dealing with waste (a must before any experimenting).
guide to the forum and the general reaction list will be very helpful.

Starting out with a simple material like memory fingers, where the processes and the material is less challenging learning the processes by study first before attempting them (study everything you can find about each detail will help in understanding the small details (the devil is in the details).

Collecting scrap and materials while you study, spending time setting up a small lab before you begin, not spending money on much of anything until you find you really need it, learning first about it to find if you really need it, learning to prepare scrap, you will learn where to find the scrap for free, you can learn how other materials can be used in your lab saving you money buying lab equipment, things you can make on your own with some mechanical skills, even some of the acids or reagents you may need in your lab...

Study (your treasure map to the gold) I am looking forward to watching your progress to getting those golden nuggets (education) the real gold in your dish, and seeing the gold you melt from that education....
