Well...after a year of lurking and reaping a wealth of information, I thought that it is time to thank you all for sharing your years of experience and knowledge on this wonderful subject.
Soooo....THANK YOU!!!!
At this point I hate to even ask a single question, due to the enormity of this site I fear that at some point it has been asked already. Just to assure you that I put an extremely high value on the time and resources that has been put into this site.
I do have one question concerning the removal of “flat packs” (the type with gold flash on the edge) from PCI cards and the like. While removing these I have noticed a fare amount of solder that falls off the board as well as the chip itself, while removing. Is this silver bearing material? I only ask because after removing several hundred of these, this solder seems to accumulate around the work area, and I hate to think that I was just sweeping it away if it is silver.
Thank you again.

Most likely tin/lead solder or if lead-free tin/antimony. Probably no silver unless very old.

An interesting article on the possible repeal of the ROHS lead-free inititive.

I've experienced problems with lead-free tin wisker shorts first hand.
