I've got a pair of silver plated lead candlesticks. I'm wondering if the lead could be melted out from under the silver, leaving a silver shell. Given the affinity of silver and lead for the other, I think the molten lead might pull the solid silver into the liquid phase. Thoughts?

your guess is correct; lead melts at:
Lead327.46°C621.43°F

silver melts at:
Silver961.78°C1763.2°F

silver-lead alloy melts at:
Silver-Lead Alloy304 °C579 °F

so, No. once the lead melts at 327 C, the silver will be fully soluble and will be dissolved in the lead.

Are sure it's not silver plated Pewter aka Tin?

One pair of silver plated candle sticks hold about one dollar worth of gold, ( I mean silver of course) maybe.
Buy or trade them for scrap sterling and use that.
the collectors value may also be more.

Edited to turn the gold into silver! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
