Hi all, sorry for such a boring question, however i have read on here somewhere a long time ago the contents of the red testing solution used by jewellery buyers.

I know its nitric acid based and know how to use just neat nitric acid.

Any idea as to the magic ingredient that turns blood red in contact with silver from an orange/pale red looking liquid.

many thanks

If you have those little acid bottles you could also use that on a scratch. It will leave a white precipitate behind. It has to be 14k or higher however as 10k is neat, not on the rocks.
