Hey Guys,

I got this on eBay for 15 bucks but I find it hard to process, if I burn it and then put the asshes in nitric will I lose gold in the process. I tried to put it nitric but it keeps floating to the top and 100g worth would take forever what would you doebaygold.jpg

I got that stuff before. And also that confirms that the stuff I got but couldn't remember what it was until I seen that picture! I've got the silver version of that. Well I thought it was silver at least. Now I'm not sure what it is at this point. And unfortunately I don't recall how I processed it before. I'm leaning towards AP method. For some reason I think I went with the AP method last time cut them up or slice them up and down on the front. But again I can't be certain. Let me know how it goes for you maybe I'll try and see if mine are silver or not maybe you didn't get through the top layer of whatever it is that protects it and it's silver underneath whatever it is the clear coat it is.

You should save your nitric. You could do ap. A lot of that kind of stuff hcl/bleach will work fairly easy for a recovery. As far as the ash, I wouldn't think you'd lose much, but depends on what you're doing with a flame. And if you haven't got rid of all the melted plastic or carbon it could potentially lock up some values..

Can you pic the sandwiched plastic with maybe like a razor blade and then pull apart? I've seen mylars done in a multitude of ways. Either altogether or pieces. A turkey bastor sometimes can be a big help with the bleach.

Do a small test.

Take a cm or an inch... doesn't matter much. Incinerate, put it on a piece of glass, add a drop of nitric. Does it react? Color blue (copper)? Tilt the piece of glass to draw off a drop of liquid, add a drop of salt water. Any white precipitate? If there is, it's silver. If no color or white precipitate then it's probably aluminium foil. In that case, incinerate a second piece, now it should react with HCl and give off gas bubbles, unless it's totally oxidized by the incineration.

If you suspect palladium you could do the same test with a drop of nitric and HCl and then test it with stannous.

This way you will have your answer in less than a hour at a cost of a few drops of acid.

If all you do have is 100 gram of that material and you paid 15 for it then the best method to process it would be to try to sell it again or wait till gold appreciate in value about several hundred percent.
If there are no sim cards present on that reel (where majority of the gold is in bonding wires inside chip itself) then just plating on reel is very thin and you will lose money trying to recover it.
There are several ways how to recover gold from this material and most if not all of them will cost more than gold recovered.

Thanks guys so I was able to get the gold off it with the AP method, I'm almost done buy my vacuum filter broken so I'm waiting for a new pump
