So i am just starting and reading a lot of the posts on here but most seem to be just about certain parts of the computers and not about the rest of the boards, how would you go about pulling the metal from inside the board and is it really worth it.

Also, i noticed like everyone else has that there is a lot of solder on the boards. My roommate tells me that it is silver-solder. what is silver-solder? does it contains silver and lead? or is it just a fancy name? or maybe (i doubt it) is it melted silver used to solder the items in place.

Chuckle!

Tell your roommate that he's wrong.

There are various types of silver solder, or, perhaps better stated, there are various types of solder, one of which is comprised of a high percentage of silver, and melts at high temperatures (1,000° F +), relatively speaking. The other kind is low temperature solder, and can contain silver, although in small percentages, under 8%. The are known as hard and soft solders.

I am not current on solder specs for electronics, but the standard used to be a lead/tin solder (60/40 or 50/50), without silver added. Soft solders are used for electronics to avoid damaging components from over heating. It is more than adequate for the task at hand.

That answers the second set of questions but how about the first. Could i just soak the board in different types of acids (like i said im new so i dont have them all noted with which acid is for what.) and let it leach into the board? or would i be better off not wasting my time and money

There are alot of threads on this forum that will answer your questions.
Whether or not it is a waste of time is for you to decide.
